Cupping, Guasha, Moxibustion, and more!
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), includes more than just acupuncture and herbal medicine. Additional therapies or modalities may be included in your treatment to promote healing and support overall health.
Cupping involves the placement of either a glass or silicone cup on the skin with suction applied to create a vacuum. This draws the skin and superficial muscles into the cup, promoting circulation and the flow of Qi (energy) and Blood. It is often used to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and support detoxification.
Guasha involves scraping of the skin with a smooth-edged tool. This practice will often produce temporary red or purple marks on the skin, known as “sha”, which indicate the release of stagnation. It can also be used to relieve muscle tension and improve circulation. It is particularly effective for colds, fevers, and the relief of neck and shoulder pain.
Moxibustion is the burning of dried mugwort (moxa) near or on the skin to apply heat to specific acupuncture points. It is often combined with acupuncture. It is used to warm areas of the body, expel Cold, stimulate the flow of Qi and Blood, and boost overall vitality.
